Support Lindfield - The Final Chapter

Support Lindfield arose out of a State Government plan to build an above ground multi-storey commuter car park on the Council western car park at Lindfield.  The community held a meeting and believed something greater could be achieved. The State Government agreed, delayed construction and ring-fenced funds to contribute to undergrounding the car park, allowing for community facilities at ground level.

That was 2012, some 14 years ago and a lot has happened since. A whole Local Government Conference could be dedicated to examining the project's entrails. $20-30 million expended, 3 rezoning, height increased from 3 to 23 storeys, 6 Mayors, 100's of consultants reports, EOI's, Tenders, a housing crisis, and nails-in-the-coffin....the State's funds withdrawn....and the TOD.

In June 2026 Council resolved to re-engage with development partners on their interest and report back by the end of 2026. Realistically Lindfield Village Hub is still many years away from fruition.

Support Lindfield was founded on a simple endeavour, a community group dedicated to creating a new heart for our Village. Over the years we ran community workshops, undertook surveys and lobbied tirelessly. We brought the various stakeholders together. We got people to work together on a solution that could satisfy all parties. We created an interesting and inspiring design/vision for the Village Hub. We are confident that the Hub will happen 'someday'  because of the group's involvement and dedication, and it will be wonderful.

However, due to the practicalities of continuing this volunteer effort for another 5 years we have resolved to end Support Lindfield's official status and apply to 'wind up' the organisation. The balance of funds will be distributed to two or three other local community groups in accordance with the rules of incorporation and directives of the Office of Fair Trading. The email contact database and all financial transactions will be deleted.

We thank you for your support over the years and assure you that the decision has been difficult but the right one in the circumstances.
