WHAT THE PROJECT IS ABOUT
Our Community’s Story
In 2012 the NSW Government proposed building an above ground commuter car park behind the shops on the west side of Pacific Highway. This has now become the Lindfield Village Hub, the biggest project ever undertaken in Ku-ring-gai. We want Lindfield to have a heart, not just a place to park and transit. Support Lindfield is an incorporated not-for-profit association managed by a small group of enthusiastic local volunteers and supported by over 700 local residents and business owners. Donations to the Committee’s bank account are used to cover costs of publicising the project and organising forums to achieve the objectives of the Committee.
Over the last 6 years Support Lindfield Committee members, who are all local volunteers, have consulted with thousands of local residents through forums, surveys and focus groups to establish a vision and to communicate to Ku-ring-gai what the community wants from the Hub. The modern library would be the “lounge room” of the community with early childhood reading sections and study pods for senior students. The multifunctional urban park would have sunny play areas for toddlers but be convertible to open air concert areas for schools and other groups. Alfresco cafés, restaurants, bars would allow mums and dads a place to relax and connect. Importantly, it would contain underground parking with easy access to supermarkets and specialty retail shops. Support Lindfield has worked with Council and our local State and Federal representatives to bring the community’s vision to fruition.
